The mainstay of the organisation is our elder members who often make usage of the great facilities and classes we have running at our centre.

Previously, we have had numerous events like gospel nights, authour events and informative sessions on concerns that our elders may have.

If you are a facilitator who would like to use our facilities to teach your classes or a community member with a suggestion for future activities, please call: 01332 371 529 and ask for Elders Officer, Adam Slater or send an email to:

DWICA’s main commitment to Derby’s elderly community is by offering a space for free and low price classes which serve to better the attendee’s health and knowledge. Currently, we have three weekly classes, with the potential for more to be added.

They are:

Tai Chi

Monday 11am-12am

Join Carol from Wild Horse Tai Chi as she guides you through the ancient Chinese martial art of Tai Chi. The relaxing movements will leave you with a clear mind and get your body moving at a gentle pace and is suitable for all ages, young and old!

As anyone who has tried her classes will attest, Carol’s classes are a great way to start your week. The class costs just 3 pounds and is every Monday at the centre’s main hall.

Computer Class

Tuesday 2pm-3pm

Are you or anyone you know often staring at a laptop or iPad, not sure of what to do? Do you want to use your digital device to do more? Are you unsure of how to be safe online? There’s no need to give up, as every Tuesday, DWICA offers a free computer class to the elderly community of Derby where we offer individualised help on all your tech issues.

So, if you are feeling like you need a help in hand or want to top up your IT skills our doors are always open and no matter the problem we will try and help. Tuesday’s classes are completely FREE and available to all!

Derby County Community Trust:

Chair Exercise

Thursday 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Every Thursday morning the Derby County Community Trust offers free chair exercise classes to the elderly community in Derby. This gentle class is great for those who may have low mobility and want to get a good workout the best way they can. Classes usually end with an entertaining Boccia game, which is always competitive and fun as the clip below shows!

Facilitator Jon always brings great music and fun, these classes aren’t to be missed! Guaranteed to leave you warmed up and smiling, this free class is every Thursday morning, so don’t miss out!
