COVID – 19 VIRUS – DWICA New Year Statement

Happy new year to all,

Derby West Indian Community Association wishes you a brighter 2021.

We are keen to continue supporting the Derby community and even more so in light of the new lockdown. If you are struggling with access to technology we are here to support all children and have tablets available to use on loan for those that do not have devices for their children to join on to school and our online sessions. If your child doesn’t have a tablet we can loan a device out to support your child’s educational development. Please share with anyone that may find this useful.

To benefit from this please call DWICA on +44 7908 897084 or email info@dwica.co.uk

Dear valued community member and ambassador,

I write from Derby West Indian Community Association (DWICA) regarding the current health pandemic, how the pandemic is affecting our community be it mental, physical or financial well-being and share current guidance from the cabinet.

We had an insightful meeting with an officer from the cabinet office regarding the current health pandemic, the vaccine and the impact of holistic wellbeing during the pandemic and their intention was to find out what they can do to support and communicate with communities particularly the Black and minority ethnic community.

DWICA Respects potential polar attitudes towards the vaccine based on current and historic relationships between the black community and government but wants to ensure that our community is safe and informed. I have attached the current guidance to ensure you are kept abreast to the current guidelines and support available to you.

We would like to hear if you would be interested in  attending participatory meeting that our community can pose questions to cabinet officers to ensure that your views are heard, respected and acted upon in policy in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To support planning would you please complete this short survey:  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/J2TBKH5

Please do share this to all contacts.

What to do if you have symptoms

Stay at home for 10 days if you have either:

  • A high temperature (37.8 degrees or higher)
  • A new continuous cough
  • Shortness of breath

This will help to protect others in your community while you are infectious.

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. However, if your symptoms are getting worst after 7 days you should contact the NHS 111, your doctor or online.

You do not need to contact NHS 111 to tell them you’re staying at home.
